Happy Father's Day
This was Dainis's third Fathers Day, and we have come a long way from our first one. I thought we would be home from Colombia before Dainis's first Father's Day. As some of you know, we got stuck there with the slowest judge in the country. It took almost 16 weeks to get home! This was 8 - 10 weeks longer than it takes most Colombian adoptions to be completed. So, all of the things I had pre-planned for Father's Day were at home. I couldn't go to the store alone so I remember asking another friend from our hotel to go to the store and buy a Father's Day card for me. Everything there is all in Spanish, so who knows what it really said! I didn't have time to google translate it. They do celebrate Mother's Day and Father's Day there, so the kids have heard of it. We are so thankful that they do understand the meaning now and try hard to make it special. Although there are still behavioral challenges, they are doing much better. After church, we had a relaxing afternoon swimming. After cake and presents, we went out to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant. When the kids go to pick out gifts, we are trying to lead them to pick things that would be useful. Dainis got a mug for juice that was decorated, a coffee travel mug that was decorated, and a putty knife. The putty knife came from Juan because he said,"Papi is always using one around the house." Of course, the highlight of any gift giving by our kids is candy. The candy aisle takes the longest because there is so much to choose from. I am still eating my Tootsie Roll pops from Mother's Day!
